Method acting is wild, guys.

I don't know about you, but I'm not down to let my jobs take over my entire life — especially to such an extreme. I guess that's why I'm not famous...

However, I'm fascinated by people that do this, and these stories about celebrities who tried out method acting prove that actors are just a different breed.

1. Halle Berry

Halle Berry pulled out all the stops to get into the head of her drug-addicted character in 1991's Jungle Fever.

According to the actress, she didn't bathe for two weeks and even visited a drug house.

Christian Bale is famous for the wild lengths he's willing to go for his roles.

The 6-foot-tall actor dropped 60 pounds for his role in The Machinist and then promptly gained it all back in just six weeks for Batman Begins.

Dude, some days I can barely get out of bed!

The entire cast of this Oscar-winning movie actually lived at the maximum security psychiatric ward where the movie was shot. They hung out with real patients and even attended group therapy sessions.

That's one way to get the cast to bond, I guess!

According to Dornan, he actually followed a woman for several blocks to help him prepare for his role as a serial killer on The Fall.

"I, like, followed a woman off the train one day to see what it felt like to pursue someone like that,” revealed Dornan.

According to her, she even caught hypothermia while filming one of the water scenes.

To portray Karl Childers, a disabled man who walks with a limp, Thornton actually put crushed glass in his shoes.
