The statistics on hunger in the United States are heartbreaking.

According to the organization Feeding America, in 2014, 48.1 million Americans lived in food-insecure households, including 32.8 million adults and 15.3 million children. Households with children reported food insecurity at a significantly higher rate than those without children: 19% compared to 12%.

But one man's small actions are making a big difference in a lot of people's lives.

Indian Fusion is a restaurant nestled in the heart of downtown Edmonton, Canada.

From the street, the restaurant looks like any ordinary eatery. But if you look closer, there is something very different about this dining establishment that separates it from others.

On the inside... is filled with the sights, sounds and scents of an authentic East Indian restaurant.

It is what's on the back door that makes it truly unique.

The first is a message to anyone who is hungry, encouraging them to knock on the door for a warm meal or beverage. The second is the menu with items that people can choose from.

Parkash Chhibber is the owner of the restaurant.

“I thought, how many people can I go and ask, ‘Are you hungry? Are you hungry?’ It’s not possible,” Chhibber told CTV Edmonton. “So I thought, why not put up a sign? In case someone is hungry.”

The story of his kindness and generosity has gone viral after a photo of the restaurant's back door was posted on Imgur
