Bees Are Now 'The Most Important Living Things' On The Planet

Bees are great! I've away thought this, and so it gives me great pleasure to be able to say that bees are finally getting the official recognition they deserve!

However, the future of the bee is tragically uncertain.

Bees have been official declared the most important living bee-ings on Earth (see what I did there?).

The conclusion was reached by the Earthwatch Institute during the last meeting of the Royal Geographical Society of London, according to The Science Times.

So, next time one of these fuzzy little creatures buzzes past you, be sure to show them the respect they deserve!

The declaration comes due to the fact that bees have a wildly impressive CV.

Bees, according to The Science Times, are responsible for a staggering 70% of the world's agriculture! Furthermore, bees pollinate plants, and so without them, the fauna would quickly begin to disappear.

Yeah, bet that makes you feel bad as you sit there ready to binge-watch your next Netflix series!

Bees are also the only living being to not carry any type of pathogen!

This amazing fact was proven by a study carried out by the Apiculture Entrepreneurship Center of the Universidad Mayor, the Apiculture Corporation of Chile, and the Foundation for Agrarian Innovation.

However, this incredibly impressive list of qualities does not mean that bees are immune to becoming endangered.

In fact, bees have now joined the endangered species list.

Despite how integral bees are to our planet's ecosystem, these wonderful, hard-working, adorable creatures need help.

According to Greenpeace's Save the Bees initiative, in 2016 alone the United States suffered a loss of 44% of honey bee colonies. However, the American government refuses to do anything to help the bees.

There are many threats facing bees today.

Threats such as overuse of pesticides, habitat loss, and climate change are all damaging to bee populations according to both Greenpeace and the Great Pollinator Project.

The Science Times suggests such actions that need to be taken to help bee populations as to, "immediately prohibit the use of pesticides, promote completely natural agricultural alternatives and we should carefully monitor their health and welfare."

We need to take action to protect these fantastic creatures immediately.

Albert Einstein himself said, "If the bees disappear, humans would have 4 years to live." These creatures are integral to our planet and everything on it. For governments to ignore the fact that they are in danger with such potentially disastrous results is wildly irresponsible!

There are many initiatives trying to help bee populations worldwide, such as Friends Of The Earth, which have tips about how to turn your garden into bee-friendly environments. After all, who wouldn't want these adorable little things buzzing around helping the planet!
