Paul Rudd Talked About Almost Getting Fired From 'Friends' After Hurting Jennifer Aniston

jake.bean 15 Oct 2019

Well, it seems that national treasure Paul Rudd had a bit of a moment on Friends.

It's okay, everybody makes mistakes. Everybody has those days. Even Hannah Montan– er, I mean, Paul Rudd.

We all remember "Friends."

NBC

You know, that little indie show that got a paltry 10 seasons and is considered to be one of the greatest sitcoms of all time?

It also had a lot of celebrity cameos.

There were some really good ones.

NBC

Brad Pitt always springs to mind when I think of Friends cameos.

His performance as Will Colbert, a man who was scorned by Rachel, is one of the funniest on the show.

Let's see...

NBC

We also have Danny Devito as the stripper which will always live on in our hearts as an awesome TV moment.

Just saying the words "Danny Devito as a stripper" brings a smile to my face.

Yes, there were a lot of cool celebrity cameos on "Friends."

NBC

Julia Roberts, Bruce Willis, pretty much anyone who was anyone in the '90s had a cameo on the hit show.

Maybe one day we'll do a compilation of all the best.

One of which was the always lovely Paul Kenneth (Ryan) Rudd.

BBC

He played Mike Hannigan, Pheobe Buffay's husband.

So, recently he went on The Graham Norton Show where he shared some stories about his time on the sitcom.

And one was about the time he almost lost his job.

Apparently, he accidentally hurt Jennifer Aniston on set.

NBC

Here's how the story goes:

“I was on set for my first episode and Jennifer was on a Segway because she had broken her toe, and everyone was marveling at it. Matt LeBlanc asked to have a go and immediately knew how to do it. I then asked to try it too.”

“I spun ’round and rolled it right over Jennifer’s foot!"

IMDb

"The producers’ look of panic was as if to say, ‘Is it too late to fire him? Has his character been established yet?’ I felt awful. Such an inauspicious start.”

Well, good thing they didn't, we loved Mike!

There were a lot of great Mike moments on the show.

NBC

His introduction to the show was hilarious. When Pheobe and Joey decided they'd make dates for each other, and Joey just started calling out "Mike?"

Well, it ended up being the right name to call.

Ross and Mike's Bro-Date

NBC

This was one of the funniest moments on Friends and one that rang pretty true to the heart of any guy who's been forced to hang out with a girlfriend's friend's boyfriend.

Load Comments

Wow, that was a mouthful.

NBC

Anyways, we all remember how well Mike's bro-date with Ross went.

Or, at least how bad it was on both of their ends. They just couldn't relate one little bit! On anything!

And finally, let's talk about the time he played on through Monica's see-through shirt.

NBC

He didn't even bat an eye and ruin Monica's fun. She thought it was the singing getting him tips but it was her... you know.

But back to his experiences with Jennifer Aniston.

That wasn't the only time he got on Aniston's bad side.

NBC

He also tells a story about how he was walking backstage one time and caught her crying.

He thought what most people would think in that situation: "I’m not supposed to be here."

So, he went over and tried to break the ice.

IMDb

Apparently, he said to her:

‘Well, we did it, what a ride”

Needless to say, the joke didn't land. Yeesh, what an awkward moment for poor Paul Rudd.

I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

But things have apparently smoothed over.

IMDb

At least I certainly hope so, considering he has been in a couple of movies with Aniston. Wanderlust springs to mind, which features her now ex-husband Justin Theroux.

So he wasn't the worst guy to come out of the movie for her!

Load Comments

All in all, we're happy he didn't get fired.

NBC

We would have missed out on one of the best cameos in the show!

And I'm quick to remind you that he's in good company when it comes to that aspect!

At the end of the day however, he looks back on 'Friends' postively.

IMDB

He said, after telling us about all the bad experiences, that it was “an incredible thing to be part of.”

Which, you know, should almost go without saying. Considering it's Friends.
