Mattel’s New Honorable Judge Barbie Breaks Glass Ceilings For Kids Everywhere

The iconic and all-powerful Barbie doll has had over 200 different careers since she first emerged in 1959.

From doctors to equestrians, these 'Career of the Year' dolls open doors for children all over the world, particularly young girls who are often told by society that their gender limits what career path they can go into.

Growing up with representation isn't just important—it is necessary. If some little girl from Kansas City sees that Barbie can break the glass ceiling and go into whatever career she wants, it suddenly opens up a world of opportunity for her.

Mattel just announced that Barbie's 2019 'Career of the Year' doll is...Honorable Judge Barbie!

"The verdict is in!" Mattel tweeted. "The Barbie Judge Doll encourages girls to learn more about making decisions to change the world for the better."

Mattel Senior Vice President and Barbie Global Brand General Manager Lisa McKnight explained to USA Today that she chose a judge because "Only 33% of sitting US state judges are women."

The Honorable Judge Barbie is available in a variety of skin tones and hair colors. Can I get a heck yes for that representation?

She's also dressed in a robe with a collar suspiciously similar to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's.

Accessory wise, Judge Barbie comes with a gavel and round block "that kids can use to help her call the room to order and make important decisions."

Mattel also partnered with several non-profits to create the doll.

They partnered with GoFundMe in order to raise money to "close the dream gap" which is the idea that girls as young as five start to believe that their career options are limited because of their gender.

Mattel and GoFundMe raised money for She's The First, She Should Run and Step Up, all of which will fund resources to give more career options to women.
