Mark-Paul Gosselaar Says He Wasn't Invited To Join 'Saved By The Bell' Reboot: 'I Woke Up to the News'

Exciting news, Saved By The Bell fans! The beloved show is getting a reboot!

But before you go ringing your bells in celebration, there's something you should know:

Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who played Zack Morris, hasn't been asked back yet...

And his reaction is pretty much as you'd expect.

The past several years on TV has been all about the "the reboot."

With this, so many beloved TV shows have been given a second life!

This includes "Arrested Development" and "Fuller House".

Roseanne may have also come back, but ABC soon reversed that decision when the show's lead, Roseanne Barr, tweeted an insensitive remark about Valerie Jarrett.

Valerie is the former senior advisor to former President Barack Obama.

Soon, the show was gone just as soon as it came back...

Luckily, a spinoff show of Roseanne came to be. It's called The Conners and features the whole cast, except Barr.

"90210" is another recent one, despite not not *technically* being considered a reboot.

Instead, it features the original cast playing themselves as they try to create a reboot of the show.

And finally, the most recent show hitting that refresh button is "Saved By The Bell"!

It's the beloved sitcom that was on the air from 1989 to 1993.

It followed the story of a group of high school friends and their principal.

So far, only two of the show's original stars have signed up for the reboot.

This includes Mario Lopez, who played AC Slater and Elizabeth Berkley, who played Jessie Spano.

They will also help produce.

Tracey Wigfield, the show's showrunner, is also back.

The premise of the revival is as such:

"When California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over-privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality."

One face you might not see on the reboot, though, is Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who played Zack Morris.

And he's pretty much blindsided by the news.

“I read it in the trades just like everybody else this morning,” Gosselaar told "Variety" while at the premiere for "Mixed-ish".

“Honestly, I was never approached. I woke up to the news this morning with a kind of ‘huh’ response.”

If asked, he said that he would definitely consider reprising the role. "I've always been interested, of course," he said.

But he's still confused as to why NBC never reached out.

It should be noted, however, that Gosselaar is now working with ABC for the show Mixed-ish, making him part of NBC's competition.

“I’m on ABC, so it doesn’t really fit into that considering Disney Plus, so I understand the business side of things,” he said.

“But I had no idea it was that far along.”

Now of course, things could change.

It happened to Melissa McCarthey.

It started when news broke that Gilmore Girls was getting a huge revival on Netflix.

Then the heartbreaking news came that Melissa's beloved character, Sookie, wouldn't be returning to Stars Hollow.

When fans pleaded her to come back, she tweeted the surprising news that she had never been asked to.

Thankfully, it all worked out in the end as Sookie made a short — but memorable — appearance.

The show just wouldn't be the same without her quirkiness.

So there's hope that what happened to Melissa and the "Gilmore Girls" revival can happen to Mark-Paul.

Because let's be real: at the end of the day, we all need justice for Zack!!!!
