Massive Ruth Bader Ginsburg Mural Painted To Honor Her 'Larger-Than-Life Legacy'

A stunning new mural has popped up on the side of a red brick building in Washington, DC, and it's taken Ruth Bader Ginsburg to new heights — literally.

According to CNN, the two-story painting was unveiled on Monday on the historic U Street in the country's capital, and was crafted as a way of honoring the Supreme Court Justice who's been making waves in Washington her entire career.

In the mural, RBG appears in her signature judicial robe and decorative collar.

Also sporting a pair of sassy pink spectacles, the 86-year-old American lawyer and jurist appears smiling widely with birds painted around her and flying from her open hands.

The mural was painted on the side of a building belonging to Flock DC, an umbrella company for three DC-based real estate and lifestyle organizations.

Because the company itself requested the artwork, the artist didn't need special permission from the city.

Company CEO Lisa Wise said Ginsburg is "iconic."

"She inspires all of us to follow our dreams," she told CNN, adding that the mural is meant to represent "our passion as a woman-owned company" and to "inspire good citizenship."

The beautiful piece was expertly painted by local Washington-based artist Rose Jaffe, a self-proclaimed feminist.

It reportedly took her ten days to create the mural, painting RBG's face, collar and hands on separate wood panels which were later installed on the wall. She said she didn't feel like she could do Ginsburg's portrait justice if she simply slapped paint onto the bricks.

The birds flying out of RBG's hands are meant to represent both Flock DC's brand and the next generation of activists and young people who have been inspired by Ginsburg to follow in her incredible legacy.

Jaffe has previously painted other social justice-oriented artwork around Washington, and RBG is just her latest masterpiece.

She said she hopes her mural "honors the importance of [Ginsburg's] larger-than-life legacy," which includes becoming the second woman ever to serve on the United States Supreme Court, as well as being a voice for gender equality, women's interests, and civil rights and liberties.
