Megan Fox Reveals 'Genuine Psychological Breakdown' She Went Through After 'Jennifer's Body'

Megan Fox has had a hard time in Hollywood ever since her breakout role in the Transformers franchise. Immediately becoming famous a sex symbol took its tole on the actress, who spoke to ET about the effect this had on her that cumulated around the filming of cult hit Jennifer's Body.

'Jennifer's Body' came out ten years ago in 2009.

While the horror film, starring Megan as the titular Jennifer, about a young girl who gets possessed and turned into a succubus, was initially panned by critics and audiences, it eventually found a cult following and is celebrated as a campy horror classic in certain circles now.

Part of the reason for the initial reaction to the films, posits Megan and writer Diablo Cody, is that the movie was marketed inaccurately.

The marketing, according to Cody, ramped up the supposed raunchiness of the film and over-emphasized Megan Fox's sexuality, a trend that had been happening to Megan since the beginning of her career.

"It wasn't just that movie, it was everyday of my life, all the time, with every project I worked on and every producer I worked with," she said.

"It preceded a breaking point for me," Megan continued. "I feel like I was sort of out and in front of the #MeToo movement before the #MeToo movement happened, I was speaking out and saying, 'Hey, these things are happening to me and they're not OK.'"

"And everyone was like, 'Oh well, [expletive] you. We don't care, you deserve it.'"

"I think I had a genuine psychological breakdown where I wanted just nothing to do," she continued. "I didn't want to be seen, I didn't want to have to take a photo, do a magazine, walk a carpet."

"I didn't want to be seen in public at all."

"Because the fear, and the belief, and the absolute certainty that I was going to be mocked, or spat at, or someone was going to yell at me, or people would stone me or savage me for just being out… so I went through a very dark moment after that," Megan said.

Megan explained how she got out of the dark place she found herself in.

"I think it took getting pregnant -- that was the first real breakthrough where my consciousness shifted and my mind opened up and I was able to see from a birds eye view and breath and take it in," Fox said.

Megan couldn't say enough positive about motherhood.

"And then another kid, and then another kid and with every kid I feel like that's always been the doorway into a better version of myself."
