Taco Bell Is Heating Up The Snack Aisle With New Reaper Ranch Chips

Taco Bell is one of those guilty pleasures that sometimes you just have to indulge in, right? Like, I remember calling it cat food in a pita when I was in high school, but then I also was known to gleefully pound back a half dozen tacos for lunch, so it clearly wasn't all bad.

Maybe I wasn't the only one saying Taco Bell was a pasty, bland concoction best eaten in fits of self-loathing, because they've upped their game in recent years, trying to inject some flavor into our lives.

Taco Bell has done much more than just dust a taco shell with cool ranch, however.

They're bringing furious heat, and nothing's more emblematic of that than the Steak Reaper Ranch Fries and Burrito, which incorporates the infamous, 1.5 million Scoville-unit Carolina Reaper pepper. For comparison, jalapenos top out at about 5,000 Scoville units of spice.

Now, Taco Bell is making that Reaper Ranch flavor available in the snack aisle as tortilla chips.

You'll note that, at the lower left corner of the bag, there's a spice scale filled up with five peppers, indicating that this will be a scorcher of an experience. As at least one person who has tried these says that scale is accurate. "This is the first time that I've had chips and the name actually matches what they say they are!"

That same person says that you can actually smell the creamy ranch flavor when you open the bag.

"And then 1.1 seconds later the crazy spiciness hits the back of your throat," they wrote. "I'm a person that if you dared me to take a shot of hot sauce I would (I have) and didn't bother me, but just one chip from these my acid reflux was screaming at me."

So, would you be brave enough to try these chips?
