NASCAR Legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. Involved In Plane Crash Along With Wife And Daughter

Dale Earnhardt Jr., along with his wife and 1-year-old daughter were passengers on an airplane that caught fire after crashing in Tennessee TMZ reports.

A plane registered to Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s race team, JR Motorsports, crashed on Thursday afternoon.

Dale's sister Kelley confirmed that he, his wife and 1-year-old daughter were on the plane at the time of the crash.

"Everyone is safe and has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation," she wrote.

TMZ is reporting that the airplane rolled off the end of the runway at 12:40 PM PT.

Two pilots were behind the controls of the plane.

Earnhardt Jr. was expected to join the broadcast team to cover the races at Bristol Motor Speedway.

NBC Sports gave the following statement to The Associated Press, "We're incredibly grateful that Dale, his wife Amy, daughter Isla, and the two pilots are safe following today's accident. After being discharged from the hospital, we communicated with Dale and his team, and we're all in agreement that he should take this weekend off to be with his family."

A reporter with WJHL-TV tweeted this video from the scene and claimed a "portion of the plane" was on still fire.

The video was taken a few hours after the crash.

An investigation is currently underway.

The National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of the accident.
