There has been significant backlash to President Trump's Sunday Tweet which stated that four "progressive Democrat Congresswomen" of color should "go back to the countries they came from."
After a less-than-agreeable public response, Trump has since doubled down on his statement and stated that they should be the ones to apologize to him.
It is assumed that the four congresswomen Trump is referring to are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley, a group of women who are notable for apposing a number of Trump's policies.
"Cortez better show some respect to [Nancy Pelosi] he said, "These women, wherever they're from, I don't know where they're from, are acting very disrespectful."
"When will the Radical Left Congresswomen apologize to our country, including to the people of Israel and even to the Office of the President, for the foul language they have used, and the terrible things they have said."
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responded to the President's comments on her own Twitter account:
"It’s important to note that the President’s words today, telling four American Congresswomen of color 'go back to your own country,' is hallmark language of white supremacists," she wrote, "Trump feels comfortable leading the GOP into outright racism, and that should concern all Americans."
