Dog Onesies Are A Thing And They Actually Help With Anxiety And Shedding

Back when my little shih tzu pupper was ready to be fixed, the vet tech gave me some great advice. Instead of buying a cone that would be too big for him or a donut he could get out of, she said to go to the dollar store and buy a baby onesie.

I took that advice and not only did it cost way less than something from the pet store, it meant that he could move around comfortably, not get at his stitches, and looked really darn cute.

Of course, that onesie wasn't made specifically for dogs.

I needed to cut a hole in the bum for his tail and while the buttons saved the hassle of undressing him for potty breaks, the dangling fabric got in the way.

But the Shed Defender is different.

It's designed specifically for dogs. Does it look both cute and kind of dumb at the same time? Yep.

Originally, it was designed as a way to keep heavily shedding dogs from creating household tumbleweeds while still being comfortable.

Creator Tyson Walters was at his wit's end with the shedding of his St. Bernard named Harley.

After getting tons of attention for his DIY version, he began the process of turning it into an actual product and business. Eventually, it was even featured on Shark Tank.

The fabric is breathable so that pooches can stay cool while wearing it.

A handy zipper opens things up for potty breaks and the whole thing is machine washable.

Like with my vet's advice, the onesie will protect surgical incisions while they heal, as well as hot spots and other skin issues dogs may lick too much.

For dogs with anxiety, the Shed Defender can even help with that.

Much like swaddling a baby, a snug outfit can help dogs feel more secure during thunderstorms or any other times they get anxious.

The Shed Defender is available on Amazon in tons of sizes and colors!
