We Just Realized That Scarlett Johansson Spoiled 'Endgame' A Week Before Its Release

Over here in nerd corner, we take spoilers very seriously. Especially for a movie as big as Avengers: Endgame. This is the wrap-up to a movie series spanning 21 films, almost 41 hours, and a frankly uncountable amount of popcorn. The world has been on high alert when it comes to spoilers, but it looks like one slipped right under our radar.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: END GAME AHEAD. You have been warned.

The spoiler came from Scarlett Johansson herself.

The ultimate betrayal. We expect this from certain OTHER cast members we may or may not name later, but not you, Scarlett! Say it ain't so!

The Russo Brothers have been perfectly clear about their feelings towards spoilers.

They even created a whole campaign about it. They started #DontSpoilTheEndgame on Twitter, gathering the cast of the movie to respectfully request that once you know what happens, you keep it to yourself.

You see who's in there? ScarJo herself.

Noticeably absent from that video, of course, are Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo.

Both actors are notorious for accidentally spilling the beans on their top secret scripts, no matter how many warnings Marvel must have given them.

Mark had a pretty good excuse when he blamed technology.

Remember when he accidentally live streamed the first ten minutes of audio from Thor: Ragnarok? He claimed he didn't understand how Instagram live worked and thought he'd stopped the stream already.

A likely story.

Remember when Tom Holland made a big revelation on his Instagram story?

Tom accidentally revealed the name of Spiderman: Far From Home on his Instagram story when he flashed the script. Some fans think this was Marvel's funny way of announcing the title, but given Tom's history, I'm not so sure.

Fans were definitely on board with this no-spoiler policy.

As this fan pointed out, Iron Man came out in 2008 — literally over a decade ago. How awful would it be to wait eleven years to see how a story's going to wrap up and at the LAST minute, someone spoils it for you?

Even now, after the movie's release, they're still protecting others from spoilers.

When Marvel fans get passionate about something, you don't want to be the one starting the argument with them.

Someone in Hong Kong even faced some pretty serious consequences for going against their wishes.

Apparently, he stood outside the theater shouting spoilers and the crowd saw fit to beat him up for it. A bit harsh, but when you act like a jerk, people are going to treat you like a jerk.

But it looks like somebody missed all the memos.

That famously coy smile is NOT fooling us, Scarlett. In the words of the great songstress Britney Spears, you're not that innocent.

With all this security surrounding the movie, we felt pretty safe from spoilers.

So safe that when Scarlett, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, and Paul Rudd went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! at the start of April, nobody was any the wiser when ScarJo slipped in a spoiler of epic proportions.

Look at that face. She knows what she's about to do.

As they were just getting comfortable, Jimmy remarked that this could be the last time all The Avengers were on the show together.

"This could be it. This could be the last one. This probably is the last one," Jimmy commented. RDJ was quick to add a bit of mystery, countering him with, "The future's very uncertain."

And that's when Scarlett dropped a bombshell that none of us even noticed.

"Don't lie to him, we're not going to ever come back."

Scarlett just leaned over, grabbed RDJ's arm, and spoiled that this movie would be the end of their characters' run in the MCU! HOW COULD SHE?!

Okay, she was probably just joking around with Jimmy.

But in light of the fates of Iron Man and Black Widow in Endgame, this comment holds a lot more weight now than it did at the start of the month when none of us had any idea what we were going to be in for.

Excuse me. I need to go grab some tissues.

See for yourself how serious Scarlett was with that comment.

Do you think she was just joking? Or do you think she was slipping in a tiny reference to the film's heartbreaking ending?

I mean, just LOOK at how RDJ reacts!

That certainly feels like the reaction of someone who knows what Scarlett just referenced, whether she did it on purpose or not.

Me too, Robert. Me too.
