Nike Ad Showing A Woman With Hairy Armpits Sparks Intense Online Debate

To shave or not to shave, that is the question. No really, that is the question of the day after an online debate about the subject was started recently.

It seems people just can't come to an agreement on what kind of body hair is considered acceptable.

The au naturel or razor-less movement has become increasingly popular in recent years.

More and more lately, women have seen sharing photos of their hairy body parts that society would have normally expected them to shave.

Even celebs have been getting in on the action with people like Amandla Stenberg proudly showing off her unshaven armpits during a red carpet appearance.

Now, the no-shaving trend has made its way into the advertising world.

On a regular Tuesday afternoon , sportswear brand Nike shared this photo of a model posing in a sports bra with her hairy underarm exposed on their Instagram.

Then came the comments.

People started leaving negative remarks on the photo, blasting Nike and the model for her public display of body hair.

“No dude, this is not freedom this is not a type of ‘I love my body,’” wrote one Instagram user. “This is bullst shave that st.”

Another person commented and said, ''That's disgusting. Like please don't get me wrong I'm delighted that this woman is brave enough to go around like that..... but that's horrible. It's not cute.''

The negative comments were then quickly drowned out by a flood of supporters for the advertisement.

"Love this pic. Loving Nike more every time they produce an ad like this. Challenge society norms! You rock," said one Instagram user.

Other comments pointed out the fact that body hair is just a natural thing that shouldn't be removed or covered up.

And lastly, some simply commended the brand's marketing team.

"WHO EVER IS THE CREATIVE AND MARKETING TEAM AT NIKE, you just out did yourself. Thank you!" commented on Instagram user.

"That's one way to get a lot of traffic on Nike's page. If her armpit had been shaved, no one would be commenting on anything other than the bra. Advertising genius. Cute bra though," another added.

Nike has yet to respond to the comments surrounding the photo but it's unlikely they're bothered by it.

The brand hasn't been shy to get a little controversial in the past. Just last year, the brand made waves and sparked controversy when they featured NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick in their Just Do It campaign.

So either Nike is trying to Just Do The Right Thing, or they Just Have Great Marketing People.
