Britney Spears Checks Into Mental Health Facility Amid Father's Health Concerns

As her father Jamie's health worsens, Britney Spears has checked herself into a mental health facility.

Back in January, superstar Britney Spears informed her fans about her father, Jamie's worsening health on Instagram.

"I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart."

"However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time."

Since the announcement, Jamie has had two surgeries to help fix major issues in his intestines and colon. However, his health has continued to worsen and he suffered from major complications following that second surgery.

On Wednesday, Spears posted to her Instagram saying that "we all need to take time for a little 'me' time." It was announced that same day that Spears had checked herself into a mental health facility a week ago.

An Emotional Toll

She's there to deal with the emotional stress and trauma caused by her father's condition and will remain there for 30 days.

According to sources, her father recently had more surgery and isn't doing well.

A Previous Statement

Last year, Jamie's colon had ruptured, prompting Spears to quit her Vegas residency to help care for her father. She released a statement then saying:

"I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family. We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me."

Spears and her father have a very close relationship, with Jamie stepping in back in 2007 to be the conservator of Britney's estate. Spears has long dealt with bipolar disorder, and Jamie has helped her manage her condition.
