High School Student Accepted To 39 Colleges, Receives $1.6M In Scholarships

Anyone who has been to college can agree that one of the most exhausting and stressful parts of the experience was applying, and hoping you got in.

And with all of the craziness surrounding college admissions corruption, it's always nice to hear about, and congratulate students who have worked very hard to achieve great things.

In 17-year-old Jordan Nixon's case, she's got a lot to celebrate.

CBS 46 sat down the the Douglas County High School senior to discuss her recently-gone-viral success of college acceptances — a whopping 39 of them.

And it doesn't look like it'll be stopping any time soon.

“The crazy thing is, I’m still waiting on decision letters, but I was not expecting that at all,” she said. Nixon had applied to around 50 schools in total.

Nixon explained that with every acceptance letter she receives, the effect, and the congratulations never seem to diminish.

"It's shocking, each and every time, you're taken aback every time you open one," she said.

Naturally, her parents, Angela and Arthur Nixon are ecstatic, "we’re so happy for her because she does put in a lot of due diligence into applying for these schools."

They also pointed to her time management skills and independence as contributing factors to her successes.

Furthermore, Nixon does extensive extracurricular work to bolster her excellent grades.

“I am one of the captains of the varsity cheer team here at Douglas County, I’m in Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, and I also participate in DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America),” she said.

According to her high school, this is the highest number of acceptances they have ever seen awarded to a single student.

And each one of those schools offers Nixon something she is looking for — they weren't randomly selected. She told CBS 46 that all of the schools she applied to were diverse, and offered international business as a major.

“It really was amazing at first, and then it became, when are the letters going to stop?” joked Angela, her mother.

On top of the extensive list of potential future colleges, Nixon was also offered a grand total of $1.6 million dollars in scholarships.

Nixon has yet to make a decision on her college of choice, but luckily has until May 1st to decide.

Until then, she can ponder the numerous possibilities ahead of her.

When asked how she did it, she told CBS 46, "I think my secret is to just give my all."
