Man Buys $540 In Girl Scout Cookies So They Don't Have To Stand In The Cold

Sometimes, it's easy to take certain parts of our community for granted. There was likely once a time when you could open the door and actually be surprised to see a young girl trying to sell you cookies.

But according to the Girl Scouts themselves, that day would've been over 100 years ago. In the time since, many of us have definitely developed a taste for Thin Mints, Samoas, Lemonades, and the other cookies we can expect year after year.

But while most of us just wait for the selling season to begin so we can satisfy our cravings, one man had a lot more on his mind when he saw a troop at work.

It doesn't take much exposure to Troop 1574 of the Girl Scouts in Greenville, South Carolina to learn that the cookie sales game is one they know well.

One enthusiastic video posted on cookie manager Kayla Dillard's Facebook page shows them in action.

They shout like classic carnival barkers and tell you everything you need to know. The cookies are four bucks a box, these are the kinds they have left, and the most important touch, they're selling out fast.

And they have good reason to be so excited about moving their product.

According to the organization's website, the more boxes they sell, the more money their local council has to fund the troop's activities throughout the year, including special summer camps.

And yes, there are merit badges for those who excel at selling cookies.

The Girl Scout site says that at every level of scouting, girls can earn a Cookie Business badge like the one you see above, as well as a Financial Literacy badge if they know as much about money management as they do about sales.

But no matter a girl's talent or enthusiasm for this part of the program, she will face times when the cookie selling season gets tough.

And as CNN reported, Maya and Emerson from 1574 were definitely in the middle of one of those times on Friday.

They were dealing with a cold winter night in a year that's been infamous for them.

And when one unidentified man first met them, he just seemed like one of the many customers they'd have on that chilly night.

Even so, he would have been a valued one since according to Dillard's Facebook post, he initially bought seven boxes for $40 and told them to keep the change.

However, this was only the beginning of this man's good deed for the day.

He soon returned to the table, saying, "Pack up all of your cookies. I'm taking them all so y'all can get out of this cold."

This meant purchasing $540 worth of cookies, but that was a price he was willing to pay.

Dillard had never met the man before, but she recognized him as "an amazing soul."

As she told CNN, "It was about 34 degrees outside that night and we were there for about two hours already before he came."

Not only did he save the girls from a cold night outside, but he helped to ensure that their troop would operate pretty smoothly that year.

The next day, Dillard posted this photo on Facebook with the caption, "I would say come buy these cookies but we have completely sold out within a 24 hr period!!!! Over 70 cases sold!"

It looks like this troop will be just fine.
