Man Pretends To Be A Cop For A Month To Get Dates

No matter how many apps they create for it, the dating world will likely never stop being challenging and frustrating at times.

Somebody can seem like the perfect candidate for a potential relationship until some deal-breaking flaw finally reveals itself. Before you know it, the heartbroken romantic who saw something in them is back to square one.

But no matter how badly a date goes, it's hard to top learning that your potential partner made up their entire identity like one man in Indonesia did.

For about a month, 21-year-old Ari Septian Pratama was quite the ladies man.

Coconut Jakarta, who translated what Ari told Detik News into English, reported that he dated more than 10 women during this time.

He confessed that he promised to marry a lot of them, but it's hard to see these promises as anything but a ploy to convince them to sleep with him.

After all, that would be only one of the many lies he told these women.

Not only was Ari claiming to be a cop, but the son of the regional police chief. And since he was already weaving a bold web of deception together, he also pretended to be a doctor of forensics.

Naturally, a fake identity needs a fake name to match it, so Ari went with "Julian Saputra."

Using this fake identity, Ari was able to charm his way into the hearts of students, civil servants, nurses, doctors, and even actual policewomen.

According to Coconuts Jakarta, he said he never conned them into giving him money, but he did manage to sleep with most of them.

His ruse may not have been so convincing if not for his sophisticated, fake uniform.

Ari apparently had the outfit custom-tailored and the results cost the equivalent of $345.

Fortunately for him, he already had the money ready thanks to a friend who challenged him to try this stunt in the first place over a video streaming service called Bigo Live.

He also got his hands on a realistic pistol replica to complete the look.

However, no matter how convincing his lies were, they weren't quite clever enough to save him from the actual police, who ended up arresting him at a hospital.

But how did they catch on to what he was doing?

It turns out that Ari's fake identity was a little too colorful for its own good.

According to Detik News, one of the women he dated couldn't help but notice that he never seemed to be at the station when he contacted her.

That may be explainable for somebody pretending to be a beat cop, but it's a lot more suspicious if they're also pretending to be a forensic scientist.

So, this woman contacted the department he supposedly worked for and asked about Julian Saputra.

Surprise, surprise, nobody by that name worked there and the real police soon found out that Ari was going around impersonating an officer.

Also, remember how Ari said that he never extorted money from anybody while in uniform?

Yeah, depending on what police can uncover in their investigation, that part may not be true either.

That's because they apparently received two reports that Ari had used his fake status to convince the alleged victims to withdraw money from an ATM for him.

Will the plot thicken?
