11+ Strange Beauty Hacks Straight From YouTube

victoria.stacey 14 Nov 2018

I wasn't exactly a huge YouTube fan before I started working at Diply, but over the last few weeks I've been immersing myself into the platform more.

There's a lot of good stuff out there! But there's also a lot of stuff I probably wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. Then there's stuff that certainly works, but I ask myself, "why would you try that?"

And that's how we've arrived at strange beauty hacks that people have tried that I'm just not sure about.

Orajel To Numb Your Brows

YouTube | Rclbeauty101

So, I've heard of buying numbing cream for tattoos to make them hurt less, and numbing cream is actually pretty common for helping with the pain of microblading your brows. But I've never thought that plucking my brows was so painful that I'd need something to make it hurt less.

Turns out, more people need to numb that pain that I could have ever thought. And luckily there is a product available at any pharmacy to help you out.

And while it's totally weird, I can see why it would help!

YouTube | Rclbeauty101

Basically, you apply the Orajel teething cream to the area you want to pluck hair out of. This cream that Rcibeauty101 used is meant for teething babies, so it's probably okay to be using on your skin.

Then, follow the instructions on the box. In this video, they wiped it away after letting it sit for a bit, then started to pluck.

As crazy as this hack is, I kind of want to try it out.

Using A Balloon To Blend Your Foundation

YouTube | Shruti Arjun Anand

Honestly, one look at YouTube and you'll see it all.

People have used EVERYTHING to blend their makeup, and at this point I don't think I'll be surprised by anything. It's actually pretty hilarious to watch people dab their faces with strange items, and it's even more funny when it actually works.

This beauty hack uses balloons to get that perfect glowy look we all know and love, and I'm seriously impressed with it.

And while it doesn't look that appealing, it seems to work out.

YouTube | Shruti Arjun Anand

I definitely wouldn't recommend giving this hack a try if you're allergic to latex. But, if you're in a pinch, I definitely think it might work.

First you'll need to blow up a balloon to about the size of a perfectly ripe avocado that you'd normally eat for breakfast.

Then you can just use it like you would any other beauty blender! It seems to have okay results — just take a look at how it worked for Shruti Arjun Anand.

Use Black Eyeshadow And Vaseline As Toothbrush Mascara

YouTube | Miabu

Of the more odd things to try, this one has got to be up there. I mean, cheap mascara works pretty darn well, and you wouldn't have to go through all the effort this hack would take.

But, if for some reason you find yourself in a dire need of mascara, but have black eyeshadow, vaseline, and a toothbrush on hand, then this hack might just work out for you.

Let us know how it goes though, okay?

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, it worked?!

YouTube | Miabu

So, you'll need to mix together the black eyeshadow with the vaseline to create a texture that is somewhat similar to normal mascara.

Then, you're going to dip a toothbrush in it and try to apply it like you normally would.

WARNING: It's going to be a hot mess.

But, it'll be a hot mess in the best way possible. You'll have to clean off your eyelid, but Miabu actually had some success with this hack.

Get Your Mascara Flowing With Hot Water

YouTube | Natalies Outlet

I'm not sure if you know this, but most makeup products have a little symbol of a jar with a number inside it on their packaging. This tells you how long it'll be good for once you've opened it.

Source: I used to work for a makeup manufacturer.

Anyway, over time, mascara tends to dry up. If you've kept it too long, you might have a hard time using it on your lashes the way you normally would.

Putting it in a cup of hot water can help loosen up the hardened or chunky bits inside.

YouTube | Natalies Outlet

This hack might seem a bit odd, but from what I've seen, it's actually useful.

It might not work if your mascara is literally a tube of chunky black gunk, BUT, it can work if it hasn't been sitting around too long.

All you have to do is put it in a cup of hot water and let it sit. You can also add a bit of coconut oil to help get it going again like Natalies Outlet did.

Use Glue To Easily Remove Red Nail Polish

YouTube | MissTiffanyMa

Ahh, red nail polish. The chicest look one can have on their fingers, no?

I NEVER wear red nail polish because it's such a pain in the butt to remove. Seriously, that stuff gets all over your skin, and sinks deep into your nails too. The stain always seems impossible to get out!

Luckily, MissTiffanyMa has a hack to help us out when we need it the most. It’s totally worth trying out for yourself.

Apply a layer of regular 'ol school glue to the tops of your nails before applying your polish.

YouTube | MissTiffanyMa

Then, add your red nail polish like you would any other time.

Once it's dry, you can wear your red polish with pride and not have to worry about stains when you take it off.

Because you put a layer of white glue, you should be able to peel off the polish without leaving any residue on your poor fingies. At least, that’s how it happened on YouTube!

Cinnamon And Vaseline Lip Plumper

YouTube | MissTiffanyMa

I'm not sure about you, but I've always wanted plumper lips. This goes wayyyy back to before I even knew who the Kardashian-Jenners were.

I've always wanted pouty looking lips, but I am way, way, way too cheap to spend money on something that claims to make these babies fatter.

But then in comes this YouTube video that suggests I can do it at home using items I already have laying around. So, maybe it's time I give it a try?

You mix cinnamon powder together with some Vaseline for your lips to create the balm.

YouTube | MissTiffanyMa

MissTiffanyMa gives us a look at how to do this over on her YouTube video.

Once you've mixed the two of them together, it's time to apply! The spice from the cinnamon is supposed to help make your lips look and feel much more plump.

Does it work? It seems like Tiffany had some success, but I wonder if when the tingly feeling wears off, does the fuller-looking lip go away too?

Use A Bobby Pin For The Perfect Cateye

YouTube | Shruti Arjun Anand

Not going to lie, just looking at this photo makes me think this has got to be a bad idea.

Now, I get it. The perfect cateye is no easy task, and there are TONS of hacks that try and make it just a bit easier for us makeup peasants. I mean, this is something I struggle with every single day!

But I really can't figure out who thought using a bobby pin would work for them!

Load Comments

Turns out, I was right.

YouTube | Shruti Arjun Anand

If you want to give it a try for yourself, add some liquid eyeliner to the triangle part of a bobby pin, then press it beside your eye where you want the cateye.

As you can see, it didn't exactly work out for Shruti Arjun Anand.

I guess the idea is that you would then use a winged tip liner to fill it in so it looks perfect. I'm not sure that would help at all in this case.

Use A Maxi Pad To Blend Your Makeup

YouTube | GlitterForever17

Like I said before, people on the Internet will literally try anything they can to make blending makeup easier.

I'm not entirely sure why, since a makeup sponge doesn't cost much at all. But people will do anything for clicks, amirite? ;)

Anyway, just like the balloon hack I mentioned above, this one seems to have worked out pretty well, and the makeup definitely got blended. Does it work better than a sponge? Probably not.

Load Comments

I mean, the makeup certainly looks like it was blended well here.

YouTube | GlitterForever17

GlitterForever17 gave this a try, and it seemed to work okay.

If you want to try this one for yourself (although, why bother imo), then you're going to take the backing off your pad and wrap it around your hand with the sticky side touching your skin.

Then, add some of your foundation to your face and starting dabbing your face like you would a normal, everyday sponge.

And then promptly come over here to tell us how it went.

Contour Your Face With A Metal Fork

YouTube | 5-Minute Crafts

I definitely LOL'd at this one when I first saw it, but when I watched the video I realized it might actually help out a lot for someone who is cursed at contouring.

I am not good at contouring, AT ALL. But, with the help of a fork, I might be able to do it? Don't let the photo fool you, I feel like it might actually work! I'll be giving this one a try for sure.

Load Comments

Okay, so it's not blended yet, but look at that!

YouTube | 5-Minute Crafts

The lines on her nose are perfect, and they're not too thick.

Whenever I try to contour my nose, it's basically just a dark brown line down the center and that's obviously not what it's supposed to look like at all.

Once it's blended, I bet this will look absolutely perfect! You can even use the handle of the fork on your cheeks.

Okay, 5-Minute Crafts, maybe your ideas aren't so darn crazy after all.

Put Plastic Forks In Your Hair For Curls

YouTube | 5-Minute Crafts

I totally understand the need for beautiful curls because my hair falls flat like 90% of the time.

But when it comes to finding things to put in your hair to help it curl, plastic forks would probably not be my first choice of random items to try out.

But, as weird as this hack actually is, it looks like it kind of works. Is it the magic of YouTube? We're not sure, but we're willing to find out.

Load Comments

I mean, just look at those stunning curls!

YouTube | 5-Minute Crafts

Obviously there is a bit more to this than just shoving forks in your hair, but this definitely looks pretty fantastic.

While the 5-Minute Crafts video didn't show us the whole process, my guess is that you'd want to do this on wet hair and let it dry with the forks firmly inside your hair.

Then you take them out, and add some styling mousse or hairspray to keep your pretty curls from falling right out again.

Use Wasabi And Vaseline To Plump Up Your Lips

YouTube | beautyklove

Okay, so earlier in this article we talked about using cinnamon powder and Vaseline to plump up your lips.

It seemed to have worked out because of the spice in the cinnamon bringing out the plumpness of your lips.

Okay, makes sense, right?

Well, if you like pain a bit more than what cinnamon can give you, then try this hack out to make your lips truly plump (and probably a bit sore, too).

Load Comments

You're going to want to mix your wasabi powder and vaseline the same way you did with the cinnamon.

YouTube | beautyklove

I totally get why this works, but I'm still not 100% behind it.

Sure, I want plump lips, but do I really want to go through the pain?

They do say that "beauty is pain" or something, don't they?

It turns out, though, that adding this mixture to your lips does indeed make them plumper. I mean, how could it not? Wasabi always makes everything sting and it's sure to make your lips inflamed.

I love how beautyklove gave this a try!

Use Foam To Create The Perfectly Blended Eyeshadow

YouTube | Rclbeauty101

This hack takes a bit of effort, but I guess the results are worth it for perfectly blended eyeshadow.

If you're not so great with doing your eye makeup, then this hack might help you out. But, to be honest, I think it's worth taking some time to learn how to properly blend your shadow, because this hack takes some work.

And man, I'm not about hacks that take more work than they deserve.

Load Comments

Okay, so it definitely looks GOOD.

YouTube | Rclbeauty101

Rclbeauty101 tried out this hack, and I'm impressed with the results, for sure.

All I'm saying is that I don't think it's worth cutting a piece of foam to size, then blending the shadow on top, and then applying it to your face.

And even when you've done that, you still have to touch it up and add a bit more shadow to make it look PERFECT.

So, maybe I'd pass on this hack but I guess I'm willing to try it out for the team.
