10+ Facts About Tom Hiddleston Fans Didn't Know

Thor, Avengers and Loki star, Tom Hiddleston, despite becoming a major player in Hollywood, has always kept an impressively low profile when it comes to his personal life. Outside of his professional achievements, it hasn't been easy for fans to get to know him.

Here are some facts about Tom that you probably didn't know!

1. He still gets stage fright.

While speaking with Hollywood Reporter, he admitted that anytime he needs to speak in front of an audience, or perform on Broadway, he still gets nervous.

But he finds a way to channel his nerves and fuel his performance.

2. His mother is a former art administrator and his father is a physical chemist.

Tom's mother, Diana, is a former art administrator, while his father, James, is a physical chemist. The two, unfortunately, divorced when Tom was a teenager.

While their split was difficult for him, he told The Guardian that the experience made him “more compassionate."

3. He prefers to live in a house rather than a high-rise building or hotel.

"I live in a house. I've stayed in high-rise hotels and sometimes I have good experiences and other times I like to have my feet on the ground, as nice as those places are," he told Business Insider.

4. He went to boarding school when he was a child.

When Tom was seven years old, his parents shipped him off to boarding school.

In an interview with The Guardian, he credited his time at boarding school for his early development of independence.

5. He prefers to run outside instead of hitting the gym.

"I use music. And running. I find that, when I’m working, if I start the day with a run—outside, not in a gym, but just me out there in the elements, with only my own legs to propel me forward … It’s something to do with just being in the world and getting out of my own head," he told Interview Magazine.

6. He is fascinated by people's "private vulnerability."

In an interview with The Guardian, he revealed that his favorite part of the getting-to-know-you process is learning the finite details of one's personality.

“I think that’s an essential truth. I sort of quite like trying to find what makes people tick behind the construction of their identity," he said.

7. He performed all of his own stunts in *Kong: Skull Island*.

"I did it all. Every single thing," he told AZCentral.

"Shooting action is like shooting dance sequences. It’s all choreographic, and actors have to work in concert with the camera team to make the most-exciting pictures, and that’s really thrilling."

8. He once shadowed a real-life autopsy for a film.

While speaking with Business Insider, he explained that it was important for him to actually know how autopsies are done, so that when a professional sees him do one in a movie, they can second its accuracy.

9. His favorite part of *Avengers* is working with Chris Hemsworth.

"The best thing about it, honestly, is working with Chris again. I first met him in Kenneth Branagh’s house in England in 2009. We were mere children, in the very beginning of our acting journeys. We made an instant connection, and it’s been extraordinary to share the ride with him—this mad journey with Marvel," he told Interview Magazine.

10. In an entire year, he estimated that he slept in his own bed for maybe a total of three weeks.

Due to his busy filming schedule, Tom revealed to Business Insider that if he had to give an estimate, he would guess he's only slept in his own bed for, collectively, three weeks.

"I haven't been home in a long time. Literally in the last 12 months, if I put them all together I would say three weeks," he said.

"I’m used to it now. When you're an actor, you go where the work is and very little is ever at home. I've learned to feel comfortable, having the things I need. Honestly, it goes with the job. I look forward to going home and there may be a time in later life when I have more responsibilities and need to be home more, but right now it's okay."

11. He once shot one movie in Australia, Hawaii, and Vietnam.

"Vietnam was unbelievable. I feel so lucky that I got to go with that production, being part of the traveling circus of a big film like that … We shot in Oahu, Hawaii. We shot in Australia. And we shot in Northern Vietnam," he told Interview Magazine.

12. He dated Taylor Swift in 2016 and it ended rather mysteriously.

Back in June 2016, Taylor Swift and Tom started dating, and things appeared to be moving at breakneck speeds.

The pair were photographed together more than 24 times within their first three weeks of dating.

Evidently, the two did not work out, and years later, it still seems to be a sensitive topic for Tom.

In an interview with the *New York Times*, Tom appeared flustered after being asked about his aforementioned failed relationship with Taylor.

"There was one stipulated no-go zone in this encounter, a condition mentioned by a publicist only after I’d arrived: No talk of Taylor Swift ... That was three years ago, and I hadn’t been planning to bring her up," the reporter noted in the article.
