Stewart was the first actor cast in the series. He brought a certain type of sex appeal to the character that was missing from previous auditions.

Originally, Sarah Michelle Gellar auditioned to play Cordelia!

And Charisma Carpenter had her eyes set on Buffy! After seeing both young women read, production decided that they'd found their Buffy.

They offered the part to Sarah and Charisma was cast as Cordelia.
