The Mulan live-action remake hits theatres on March 27th, and while fans expected some changes from the classic Disney film, others were surprised to find out there'd be no singing, and no Li Shang!

'Mulan' Producer Says Li Shang Was Removed From Live-Action Remake Because Of The #MeToo Movement
Captain Li Shang and Mulan's relationship develops as Mulan joins Shang's command.
Their love story is a quintessential part in the film, so many fans were upset to hear there'd be no Li Shang in the remake.
Recently, producer Jason Reed explained the decision to "Collider," citing a few key cultural changes since the making of the 1998 film.

“We split Li Shang into two characters. One became Commander Tung (Donnie Yen) who serves as her surrogate father and mentor in the course of the movie. The other is Honghui (Yoson An) who is [Mulan’s] equal in the squad,” he began.
"I think particularly in the time of the #MeToo movement, having a commanding officer that is also the sexual love interest was very uncomfortable and we didn’t think it was appropriate."
