Charlize Theron Says Of Working With Women Instead Of Men: 'You Never Have To Wait For A Woman'

Charlize Theron is a hugely successful actress who has worked with a ton of high profile, talented, and perhaps diva-esque celebrities of all genders, but she has a new revelation for the differences between them on set.

Bombshell, which is about the true story of women who worked for Fox News who accused the former CEO Roger Ailes of sexual harassment in 2016, understandably has a female-heavy cast.

When Charlize was asked what it was like to work with mostly women, she had an answer ready.

"I'll tell you the first thing that happens when you work with women that you don't get with men," Charlize told PEOPLE.

"You never wait for them."

Charlize then went on to elaborate, saying, "I have never waited for a woman on set."

Charlize was with her co-star Nicole Kidman who expressed agreement about working with a large female cast.

"There’s incredible power," Kidman agreed. "I did it with all the girls on Big Little Lies. It just doesn't come along that often."

"Particularly a film that is about topical issues that need the support of a group of women who are going to speak about it and give their hearts to it."

Charlize continued, saying, “We have this real need to want to work with other women. Yet we get so few opportunities.”

'Bombshell' is likely close to Charlize's heart for a number of reasons.

Charlize has discussed an incident of sexual harassment that happened to her that was not entirely unlike the situations depicted in the film.

Charlize has said that in 1994, she was asked to audition for a director at his home.

She stated that when she arrived, the director was drinking and in pajamas. He touched her leg inappropriately, and Charlize apologized and left his house immediately.

Charlize explained she was angry with herself immediately after this encounter.

"I just kept hitting the steering wheel. I put a lot of blame on myself, that I didn't say all the right things, that I didn't tell him to take a hike..."

"That I didn't do all of those things that we so want to believe we'll do in those situations."

Charlize explained of harrassment that "It's not always physical assault. It's not always rape. There's a psychological damage that happens for women in the everyday casualness of language, touch or threat — threat of losing your job."

"Those are things I've definitely encountered."

When asked if Charlize was going to name the director in question, she replied, "I think there will be a time and a place where I will definitely share this. I've always been honest about it."

"I don't have a desire to protect him, but I also don't want him to overshadow this film right now."

"So there will be a right time where I will talk about this again, and I will say his name, yes," Charlize said.
