Poll Says 62 Percent Of Trump Followers Would Support Him No Matter What

Trump is an enormously controversial figure, but support from his base remains strong. This can be seen at the enormous rallies he's hosted before and after becoming president. His supporters even have a uniform of sorts: a red MAGA hat.

Just weeks before he was elected, an audio recording surfaced of Trump bragging about groping women without their consent. He dismissed this as "locker room talk", and went on to win the presidency.

Trump faces the very real threat of impeachment for his dealings with Ukrainian officials, and in recent months, prominent members of his own party have criticized the way he's handled things.

He's dogged by controversy everywhere he goes, and Democrats and Republicans alike seem poised to hold him accountable for his actions. But despite numerous missteps, it seems that his popularity with the electorate has barely wavered.

Researchers from Monmouth University in New Jersey released a poll this week that shows just what Trump's supporters think of him. A whopping 62 percent of supporters said that they would support him no matter what.

These die-hard supporters said they couldn't think of "anything that Trump could do, or fail to do, in his term as president that would make [them] disapprove of the job he is doing."

In January 2018, Monmouth researchers did the same poll, with half of Trump supporters saying they'd support him no matter what. That means that, in a little over a year and a half, there's been a 12-point increase in this category.

Unsurprisingly, 70 percent of people who disapprove of Trump's handling of the presidency said there's absolutely nothing that he could do that would win their support. In all, 51 percent of survey respondents say they disapprove of the job he's doing.

Political polarization is at an all-time high in the United States, and this survey just reinforces things. Those who approve tend to approve no matter what, and those who disapprove tend to disapprove no matter what.

On one hand, this could be seen as a galvanizing force for a president who's bracing himself for an impeachment inquiry. On the other, it shows how many people disapprove of the job he's doing.
