Miley Cyrus has already had a career for the books and sis is only 26 years old. The emotional, spiritual and personal journey Miley's music has been through in the past decade truly crosses over every mainstream genre.

With this being said, this journey has not come drama free.

Yes, Miley is hella mature now and married to the love of her life, gorgeous Liam Hemsworth.

But I'm gonna take you back to a different time, a time we all know well and some may try to forget.

After that now infamous 2013 VMA performance where Miley dry humped Robin Thicke and broke off her engagement with Liam Hemsworth a few days later, Miley moved into a phase that will be known to history as her most iconic.

Bangerz is still my favorite Miley album because it gave us classic hits like "Wrecking Ball" and "Adore You" which are still on my go-to "I need a good cry" playlist.

However, this Miley phase was highly scrutinized as it appeared Miley was appropriating black culture, specifically with her twerking, appearance and overall style of hip-hop music.

Miley took a break after her Bangerz tour before finally making her triumphant return to music in the Spring of 2017

During a super problematic interview with Billboard in May 2017, Miley announced she had to take a step back from the hip-hop scene because of the music being released.

Speaking about Kendrick Lamar's music, Miley said " I also love that new Kendrick [Lamar] song [“Humble”]: “Show me somethin’ natural like a with some stretch marks.” I love that because it’s not “Come sit on my dk, suck on my ck.”

She continued, I can’t listen to that anymore. That’s what pushed me out of the hip-hop scene a little. It was too much “Lamborghini, got my Rolex, got a girl on my c**k” -- I am so not that.

Of course, Miley spoke as wealthy, white woman who has the luxury of popping in and out of a music genre when she feels like it fits her brand and desires at the time.

Miley was heavily critiqued for these comments and accused of appropriating black culture to benefit and elevate her career.

These comments were finally addressed very recently and very publicly after Miley apologized on the comments section of a fans YouTube video.

The video, titled "Miley Cyrus Is My Problimatic Fav.... Sorry" came from fan Kenya Wilson who called out Miley for doing "some very racially insensitive things as far as culturally appropriation" and referenced the singer's comments in that Billboard interview.

Miley commented on the video, saying "Just watched your video. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak up."

"Being silent is not like me at all. I am aware of my platform and have always used it the best way I know how and to shine a light on injustice. I want to start with saying I am sorry."

"I own the fact that saying ... 'this pushed me out of the hip hop scene a little' was insensitive as it is a privilege to have the ability to dip in and out of 'the scene.' There are decades of inequality that I am aware of, but still have a lot learn about."

"Silence is a part of the problem and I refuse to be quiet anymore. My words became a divider in a time where togetherness and unity is crucial . I can not change what I said at that time , but I can say I am deeply sorry for the disconnect my words caused."

There is no denying Miley has made mistakes in the past, but taking time to publicly address a huge scandal directly to a fan says a lot about how far Miley has come.
