We Were Today Years Old When We Learned We'd Been Doing These 10+ Things Wrong

You may have seen a bunch of tweets going around saying, "I was today years old when I found out X." We've been writing about things you may have been doing wrong for a while, but it looks like it's making a comeback in a whole new way.

And it's not just lifehacks and everyday things people are learning about. They're also learning new things about TV shows like SpongeBob Square Pants and That '70s Show, too.

It's definitely never a dull moment in the world of the internet.

1. You've been using a can opener wrong.

I personally have seen people use a can opener in both of these fashions, and there's some debate on which way is actually right. Either way, there are two ways to do it and one of them is probably wrong.

2. Did you know the Gatorade cap fits on the bottom of some of the bottles?

Twitter | @GiGiMcK

We aren't sponsored by Gatorade or anything, but I'd definitely suggest running out to the store and buying a couple bottles to see how this one goes.

3. Raise your hand if the left side is how you've used a Glade air freshener your entire life.

Facebook | Katrina Martin

Turns out, the right side is how we should have been doing it all along. I'm glad I wasn't the only one doing it like this.

4. You've been rubbing your chopsticks together before eating with them.

Most people rub them together to make sure there are no splinters, but if they're good quality chopsticks, there shouldn't be. So, if you do rub them together, you're sending an insult to the restaurant because you think their chopsticks are cheap. Oops?!

5. You've got a built-in coaster attached to your cup.

Imgur | Lopefrisava

Basically, all you need to do is take the lid off of your cup and it fits perfectly underneath. This is perfect if you're worried about your cup leaving watermarks all over your desk.

6. This might be the most useful hack on this list.

Use your keyboard to press the keys "CTRL + SHIFT + T" all at once. You'll notice that the last tab you exited will pop back up. This is key in my line of work!

7. The jury might still be out on this one, but it kind of makes sense.

Imgflip | LilianaBowen

Apparently it varies toaster to toaster, which is probably why at home my bagel is perfect and at work it is definitely not.

8. Keep things even.

Reddit | Omgpolly

When you reheat your food in the microwave, leave a hole in the middle of it so the microwave reheats everything evenly.

9. This would honestly make grocery shopping so much easier.

Reddit | Kuzzi5

You don't want to crush your bread (or fave flavor of potato chips), so using these hooks is actually genius.

10. Do you use the power button on your microwave?!

Reddit | asanboo

Apparently, you should. According to Reddit, using the power button evenly heats your food because it cooks longer at a lower heat. But, this can also increase the energy use, so be careful!

11. A spray bottle nozzle fits perfectly on a water bottle.

Reddit | lardparty

So next time you can't stand the heat, add a spray nozzle to a frozen water bottle. You'll never have to complain about the lack of AC again.

12. Are you sharing secret notes you don't want anyone to know about?!

Reddit | yourmom46

Don't scribble them out with lines — you can still read them! Instead, use a circular motion and it'll be much more difficult to read.

13. I absolutely love chicken nuggets with ketchup, but they never fit in the cups.

Imgur | LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Did you know you can fan out your cups for better dunking action?! This. Is. Amazing.

14. My boyfriend asks me which side the gas tank is on every time he drives the car.

Reddit | IGotTheDeadInMyHead

Which is silly since he drives it more often than me, but that's besides the point. Now he won't have to ask if he just looks at the gas gauge! It points to the side the tank is on.

15. Clean your oven properly!

Michelle Raybirn | Michelle Raybirn

I think we all know that the coils of an oven can come off for cleaning, but did you know the top can be lifted? I don't even wanna know what's under there. Thanks, Michelle, for this genius tip!

16. Don't drink cold beer or soda!

Imgur | nomnomnetwork

You can quickly cool down a warm drink by wrapping it in damp paper towel and putting it in the freezer. It'll cool down before you have to worry about the glass cracking or the drink exploding.

17. Don't let the roll of foil fall out of the box!

Stacey's Snacks Online | Stacey's Snacks Online

There is a place on the side of the box where you can push the cardboard in so that the roll of foil won't fall out! Thanks to Stacey's Snacks Online for sharing this solid trick.

18. You should be wearing sunscreen on your face at all times!

Instagram | @olay

The best way to do that? Wear a daily moisturizer with an SPF so you are protecting your skin every single day!

19. Cutting a pizza and having the pepperoni uneven across all slices is not cool.

Reddit | Reddit

So, if you're making one at home, this is how you should be laying out your pepperoni pieces!

20. Are you squishing your bread because you're trying to cut it while it's way too hot?

Imgur | Imgur

Flip that bad boy over and you'll have a much easier time trying to cut through it.

21. Did you know that switch on your fan has an important function?

Mom4Real | Mom4Real

It dictates the way your fan spins! Put it up in the winter to bring hot air down, and down in the summer to push the warm air up.

22. Have you ever wondered what that slot on a bottle opener is meant for?

Reddit | Piyh

Apparently, it's used to open a can! Don't worry about breaking a nail, just use a bottle opener instead.

23. We've all hit the bottom of a ketchup bottle in an attempt to get it to flow out.

YouTube | Roger Dilly

Obviously, it's a poor design to begin with, but hitting the bottom isn't the best way to do it! Roger suggests hitting it around the middle where the bottle starts to get thinner.

24. But where am I going to keep all my pans?

Instagram | @cozycourtz

The drawer underneath your oven isn't for storing your pans — actually, it's specifically NOT for that, and warns you against it in the instructions. It's actually designed for you to put hot foods in to keep them warm.

25. Did you ever drink this juice as a kid?

Twitter | @linalyfe

I always cut the top off just below the circular part. Turns out, you're supposed to cut the top off at the very tip and use it as a straw. WHO KNEW?!

26. Instead of trying to squeeze your hand in the glass...

YouTube | Incognita

If you stick a fork into the cream of the Oreo, dunking becomes easy as 1 2 3! No more claw-hand struggle.

27. How did I never notice this before?

You know those raised lines on the bottom of your freezer? They aren't just a design. They're actually there to help you organize your meat packages. Ohhhh, that makes a lot of sense!

28. Forget lint rollers.

BoredomTherapy

When you've got lots of little lint, pilling, and flyaway pieces on your clothing, use a razor to literally shave it down. Good as new!

29. I've always wondered what these symbols were for.

Beauty gurus, listen up. Those symbols on the back of your beauty products serve an important purpose. The number inside the symbol indicates the shelf life of the product once it's been opened. It's important to use the product within the time frame indicated, as beauty products can expire and grow harmful bacteria over time.

30. Maximized efficiency sandwich.

BoredomTherapy

Everything is even, everything is fair, and the whole piece of bread is covered with meat. We've finally done it! We've perfected the sandwich!

31. This is a game-changer.

I'm honestly going to try this as soon as I'm done writing this article. Apparently, iPhone users can use their cameras to scan documents. What? How did I not know about this feature?

32. Need a cold drink fast?

Someone on Reddit shared this genius hack to cool down a drink quickly. Wrap two ice packs around the drink and then pop it in the freezer for a few minutes. You'll have a cold, refreshing drink in no time.

33. Such a simple solution to this common problem.

Have you ever noticed that towels tend to fall off the towel rack? I feel like there's a design flaw here that needs to be addressed but in the meantime, get yourself a regular ol' binder clip. Clip the two sides of the towel together and it will stay put once and for all.

34. If you love McDonald's coffee, try this hack.

Similar to the Starbucks cups, McDonald's coffee cup lids also work perfectly as a coaster. Now you have somewhere to rest your cup while you wait for it to cool off. I tell ya, you learn something new every day.

35. Rubber bands to the rescue!

If you need some non-slip hangers ASAP, don't freak out. Just grab a trusty rubber band. Simply wrap the band around the ends of the hanger and — ta-da! You have a DIY non-slip hanger!

36. Did anyone else know about this feature?

Have you ever wondered why you sometimes get the option to decline a call on your iPhone, but other times you have to slide the button to answer the call? Basically, it all comes down to whether your phone is locked at the time or not. Personally, I would love to have a decline button at all times.

37. Here's an easy way to make a germ-free soap dish.

We all know that bar soap can be less hygienic than liquid soap. That's because bar soap often sits in the excess water that fell into the dish while we were washing our hands. However, a few rubber bands stretched across your soap dish can make a little DIY drying rack that keeps your soap out of the water.
