Reese's Comes Out With New Chocolate Lovers And Peanut Butter Lovers Cups

One could argue that Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are perfect as they are. They cracked the ratio of chocolate vs. peanut butter decades ago and they should just leave things the way they are.

People making those arguments are wrong.

Well, perhaps misguided is a better word for it.

Is the original cup a classic? Yes, and that classic isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

So if you can still get the original, why bother whining when they want to try something new? Some will succeed, some will fail, and the original will persist.

Personally, I'm one of those people that prefers the seasonal Reese's to the standard three-cup sleeve.

It's not so much about ratios, though some are better than others, but more about freshness for me. I really really hate opening up a sleeve of Reese's to discover they've been sitting long enough for the peanut butter to separate.

Due to their seasonality, those Christmas trees, bats, or Easter eggs aren't likely to have been sitting on that shelf for three months.

I'm definitely intrigued by the latest release, though.

The new "Lovers" cups are made for those people who love one half of the classic ratio just a little bit more. I kind of just want to try both.

These cups are ready to pit Team Peanut Butter against Team Chocolate.

The "Chocolate Lovers" cup has a higher proportion of milk chocolate, creating a thicker shell.

The "Peanut Butter Lovers" cup has a thinner chocolate shell and peanut butter top.

Sadly, there won't be a combined package.

While it would be convenient to get to try both types at once, separating them this way is brilliant from a marketing perspective.

They've basically guaranteed that most people will buy two packs just to try both. Sneaky sneaky.
