Coffee Shop Run By People With Down Syndrome Set To Open Third Location

Have you ever come across something so pure, you can hardly believe that humans were behind it?

Sometimes it feels like we're drowning in bad stories, and between the news cycle and social media, it's hard to pull yourself out of the negative whirlpool of garbage that we're constantly thrown into.

But once in a while, a little stream of sunlight breaks through the dark waters, and guides us into the light.

Meet Amy and Mr. Wright, the good people behind an even better story.

Bitty & Beau's Coffee

When these two love birds got together, they decided to lead with love — and when two of their four children were born with Down syndrome, they took that belief to heart.

On their website, they share the origins of a journey that has made waves across the country, and rippled throughout the internet.

The Wright family has made it their mission to not only appreciate, but celebrate and embrace people with Down syndrome.

In their own words, they "have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place for their children and others living with IDD."

They turned this dedication into Bitty & Beau's Coffee, a shop named after their youngest kids, and filled with employees who live with intellectual and developmental disabilities!

It was originally called Beau's coffee, but renamed after Beau insisted his sister's name be highlighted as well.

"Beau’s Coffee created a path for people with IDD to become more valued, accepted and included in every community. " they explain on their website.

The company shares profiles on their employees every few weeks to showcase the talent they bring in.

It's inspiring to see people with Down syndrome enjoying job satisfaction, relationship building and the opportunity to be self-sufficient.

Often times, people disregard those with intellectual disabilities because they assume that they are not able to do work, but that simply isn't the case.

Hopefully, Bitty & Beau's Coffee shops will inspire other organizations to be a little, or a lot, more inclusive in their hiring process.

In the end, it's the rest of the world that's missing out — and we could change that, one shop at a time.
