Woman Uses Cousin's Hand for Engagement Pic and Twitter Can't Handle It

Emily Reily 5 Nov 2018

Diana, a nurse from Melbourne, Australia, just got engaged! Congrats, Diana! Actually, people get engaged every day. What makes this engagement stand out, though was a stand-in hand. Allow us to explain.

It's all about the bling

Getting engaged is a dream a lot of women share. Sometimes, they know it's coming -- the relationship is heading in THAT direction and they expect a ring at any time. Other times, they're caught off-guard, which often produces the best photos. This is what happened when Jose proposed to his girlfriend, Diana.

Nailed it

So far so good, except for one thing: Diana's hands weren't picture-perfect, and this just wouldn't be acceptable for the myriad photo shoots that were about to take place.

So Diana did the only logical thing, and had her cousin, Jenna, sub in her neatly manicured hand to show off the engagement rock, all while taking the picture.

If she was campaigning to be the maid of honor, she just won at the polls.

And she said, "Yes."

Jenna explains that Diana never has her nails done - she's a nurse, so it's just not practical for her. To keep the proposal a surprise, Jose told Diana that all the flowers and balloons were for his parents' wedding anniversary. Then he popped the question.

Jenna's photo has racked up thousands of RTs and likes on Twitter. Telling Buzzfeed, Jenna said: "We considered quickly painting her nails but in the excitement of the moment, we couldn’t wait so I suggested using my hand instead."

Jose and Diana could have waited to get their engagement photo snapped, but the excitement was all too much for them. The photo had to be taken right then. And you really can't tell the difference, as long as you crop out the bottom half of the photo.

So what does this teach single ladies (and guys)? Always have a witness, and always have someone with nails that are immaculate.

Above all, make sure he's the one

Whatever you do, just make sure he or she is the person you want to spend your entire life with. If you don't think about this crucial fact, you'll just be left with great nails and bad memories.

You might wonder how exactly he managed to keep it all such a big surprise.

Like, seriously

How could you plan this big, elaborate party, and not have Diana suspect that anything was going on?

It turns out that Jose actually pulled off the scam of the century

If you want to throw a party, and you don't want the guest of honor to suspect anything, there's just one thing you can do.

He told Diana that the party was for his parents' anniversary

That way, all the decorations about love, all the food, and the photographers wouldn't seem suspicious at all.

Even more amazingly, Diana planned the party

Twitter | @goodgaljenjen

Some might call it lazy, others would call it ingenious. Sure, it helps make sure she's got the perfect party, but she's also a working nurse! She doesn't have time for that!

It's doubtful that the couple meant for all of this to happen (Diana herself is private on Instagram), but it's nice to see them using the platform to spread love.

"This girl deserves the world," Jose told Good Morning America, "and she wasn't expecting a proposal this year, especially with everything we've gone through. So the whole surprise was just perfect."

The hosts went on to speculate about whether the engagement might have been a bad start to their marriage

After all, wouldn't putting your engagement ring on someone else's hand be bad luck?

Load Comments

It's a sentiment Twitter seemed to agree with

Twitter | @najo_nikki, Twitter

It would have never occurred to me that this might be a bad luck thing, then again, I probably wouldn't have thought of having my cousin pose in the first place.

But the fun of the engagement itself is a much bigger than any bad vibes from the alleged faux pas

"I think anybody with that kind of sense of humor has got a long marriage ahead of them," said one of the GMA hosts.
