Follow The Yellow Brick Road! A 'Wizard of Oz' Remake Is In The Works

We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz! Well actually, you're off to see a REBOOT, KNOCK-OFF WIZARD OF OZ!

That's right, for better or for worse, the beloved movie musical The Wizard of Oz is getting the 21st century reboot treatment. I don't feel great about it, but I'm also so numb to any joy these days that it's hard to tell!

It seems everywhere you look these days some old movie or TV show is getting a reboot.

Unfortunately, just like celebrities' faces after plastic surgery, the facelift is never as good as the original.

Judy Garland as Dorothy is one of the few things that make sense anymore. Who else can pull off those red, sparkly shoes, or make us weep for life Somewhere Over The Rainbow?

As you may know, Judy went through horrible treatment on set to make this movie, so I personally feel the remake is kind of disrespectful to her legacy!

There's no denying *The Wizard of Oz* is one of the most beloved classic Hollywood films of all time.

It's almost as old as I am, premiering allllll the way back in August 1939.

The film starred a 16-year-old Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, and Margaret Hamilton. This all-star cast created characters fans have loved and enjoyed for over 80 years!

Now, *The Wizard of Oz* is getting a remake at New Line Cinema.

Directed by Nicole Kassell, the film was be based on L. Frank Baum’s book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," which has been told on the big screen several times before. Of course, in the 1939 classic and also in the 1978 film, The Wiz starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.

According to Variety New Line promises fans upcoming film will be a "fresh take" on Dorothy and the Land of Oz, adding that it can "draw on other elements" from Judy Garland's Wizard of Oz.

“I am incredibly honored to join Temple Hill and New Line in bringing this beloved classic to the screen," director Nicole Kassell said. said.

"While the 1939 musical is part of my DNA, I am exhilarated and humbled by the responsibility of re-imagining such a legendary tale."

She continued: "The opportunity to examine the original themes — the quest for courage, love, wisdom and home — feels more timely and urgent than ever."

"These are profoundly iconic shoes to fill, and I am eager to dance alongside these heroes of my childhood as we pave a newly minted yellow brick road!"

I hope this movie lives up to the glory of the original! What do you think of the remake? Let us know in the comments below!
