Just like people, dogs can be born with certain disabilities or deformities that can affect their overall health and lifestyle. Sadly, these kinds of things can make them less desirable for potential owners, since many scoff at the idea of the extra vet bills and care such a pet will need.

For Anna Marie Giannini, that wasn't the case.

She first met Tilly, the Tibetan spaniel, as a puppy. Tilly was just one of a whole litter looking for new homes, but she stood out from the rest for a very unfortunate reason.

Tilly has short spine syndrome.

Unlike her more "average" siblings, Tilly was born with a genetic condition that made her spine and neck short, resulting in a stunted body.

And Giannini fell in love with her in an instant.

In an interview with The Dodo, she said, "When I arrived, they had told me one of the puppies was deformed and they could not find her a home, which could lead to euthanization.

"I had already fallen in love with her and planned out our next year together in my head before he was even done saying that awful statement.”

That was that. The decision was made.

Giannini took Tilly home the same day she met the pup, saying, "as we drove home from where I picked her up, she lay in my lap and looked up at me with her big brown eyes, and I knew she needed me and I needed her.”

Now that she's grown up, Tilly's just living her best doggo life.

Her short spine became much more visible as she grew, but despite this, Giannini expects she'll be just as healthy as any other dog, and get to have a good, normal life.

She's as independent as she is adorable.

According to Giannini, Tilly's short spine doesn't keep her from being able to experience life as a dog. She plays and goes for walkies and generally enjoys all the fun of being a spoiled pet.

She may need help from time to time, though.

Getting up on the couch, and even scratching herself can be difficult, but Giannini is more than happy to lend a helping hand. Who wouldn't be?

It looks like the two have a bond that'll last a life time.

Which is honestly what they both deserve. Giannini gave Tilly the chance many people wouldn't have bothered to.

Tilly even has her own Instagram page!

With thousands of likes on each post, it's pretty clear that the world is in love with this adorable doggo.
